Idleon Smithing Build Guide (Anvil Points & Levelling) - Games Finder (2024)

Last Updated on March 31, 2024 by Samuel Franklin

Smithing is unique compared to the other starting specialised skills of Idleon as it is a passive town skill that makes it confusing to optimise anvil points and levelling for new players. As the specialty of the archer class smithing allows players to generate materials that are critical to other game mechanics and craft equipment for their account.

In this Idleon smithing guide I provide an overview of smithing, recommendations on how to spend your anvil points and ways to optimise your smithing levelling journey. Guides for all other classes and skills are available on our Idleon builds page.

Smithing Levelling

Smithing is a passive World 1 (W1) town skill in Idleon with materials constantly crafted up to your anvil capacity. These production items include Thread, Trusty Nails, Boring Brick and other materials with each taking longer to produce and reducing experience efficiency. If you’re wondering how to get Boring Bricks for example they are unlocked at smithing level 12 with further new materials unlocked approximately every 5 smithing levels.

Because of this players will maximise smithing levelling by crafting Thread although this needs to be balanced against your anvil capacity and how often you collect your smithing gains as you earn no experience once your anvil is full. Players can collect these crafted materials from the W1 anvil or through the codex by clicking the produce tab and the quick deposit button.

Anvil Points/Smithing Points

Anvil Points (or smithing points) allow players to customise their smithing experience by investing into bonus experience, speed or capacity and are separate for each character in your account. These points can be reset in World 3 by purchasing an Anvil Reset Whetstone from the shop which allows players to reassign them. Anvil points can be acquired by gaining smithing levels or trading monster resources (700 max) and purchasing them for coins (600 max) from the anvil interface.

The different anvil point options provide the following benefits:

  • Bonus Experience: Increases the amount of experience that is earned per item produced.
  • Speed: Increases how fast items are produced at the anvil.
  • Capacity: Increases the capacity of your anvil (can also be upgraded by crafting material carry capacity bags).

I recommend that new players invest into speed as a priority to maximise items produced which also provides smithing experience. If your anvil is filling up too quickly and you already have used the highest level material carry capacity bag available then players can place some points into capacity. For later game players that have heavily invested into the Hammer Hammer alchemy bubble you can redistribute to focus on capacity and bonus experience to push the high smithing levels (100+).

While you could invest solely in speed when progressing your account you’ll likely need some anvil points into capacity to maximise your overall anvil gains as capacity bags alone may not be enough. Accordingly players will want to find a balance between speed and capacity that ensures you have no wasted capacity for your specific Idleon login cycle. As an example I check Idleon once every 24hrs so I invested into speed and capacity until my Thread production capacity was full at around the 24hr mark.

Smithing Build – Archer Talent Points

As there are only a few smithing related skills available players can max these talents on the same preset as their skilling build (catching for Bowman and trapping for Hunter) with the following priority after maximising your catching or trapping talents:

Players can invest into this talent, spend the anvil points in World 1 and then reset their talents while keeping those spent anvil points (they will show as negative in the UI as shown below). This is a useful trick to optimise your anvil points to spend early on when talent points are scarce.
